This public, bilingual school is a historic landmark in the district of Chamartin. It has operated under several managements since its inception. Its main goal is to offer students a quality education, one that helps all students to make progress in accordance with their personal circumstances.

The school dates back to 1933 with the original name of Alfredo Calderon School and under the pedagogical ideas of the “Institución Libre de Enseñanza,” implemented by its first principal Justa Freire. After the Spanish Civil War the school begins to operate as "Padre Poveda" School, directed by the Teresian Association, in recognition of the educational and pedagogical work of its founder, Pedro Poveda.

In 1974 the patronage of the Teresian Association ends and it is still called "Padre Poveda" Public School.
